Pilates is much more than exercises on a mat and in the reformer. Joseph Pilates developed an entire system of machines and tools - designed to support, challenge and progress your workout.

At Pilates Søborg, we work with the entire equipment system. This allows us to customise the exercises to support, challenge and develop you step by step.

Equipment designed to support, challenge and develop your training

Pilates is developed as a complete system where each piece of equipment has its function and role in the workout. At Pilates Søborg we work with:

Reformers - a regular part of our class training. Perhaps the best known machine that combines strength, stretch and control

Tower - Our tower units are combined with the reformer. Provides resistance and support in a wide range of strength and stretching exercises

Chair - Compact but challenging, focusing on balance and strength in the legs, back and abdomen. Can be used in both private and group classes

Barrels - Exercises flexibility and strength in the spine and works the deep abdominal muscles. Use in both private and group classes.

Cadillac - One of the most versatile machines, with countless possibilities for strength, mobility and stretching. Primarily used in private lessons

Props - Small accessories such as rings, balls, blocks, bands and weights that add variety and extra challenge to all the familiar exercises

When Joseph Pilates developed his method, he also designed machines and tools to help the body move more efficiently, precisely and balanced.

Many of the devices originated from simple ideas - springs from hospital beds, wooden frames and leather straps - but they are still used today because they are timeless in their function.
At Pilates Søborg we work with the whole system. Each piece of equipment has its role and is designed to support, challenge and progress your workout.

Reformers The Reformer is probably the most well-known machine and looks like a low bed with a sliding bed, springs and straps. It is designed to provide resistance and support at the same time, making exercises precise and controlled but also challenging. The Reformer can be used for everything from simple movements for beginners to technically demanding exercises for advanced users, and is a regular part of our class training - often combined with the tower and classic matwork exercises.

Tower -The tower is a tall, vertical metal and wooden frame mounted at the end of the reformer. The frame has springs at different heights, as well as rods and straps that can be tightened and loosened depending on the exercise. Visually, it looks a bit like a combination of an exercise stand and the end of a hospital bed - and this was the starting point when Joseph Pilates began experimenting with springs to support patients' movements during the First World War.

Today, the tower allows you to work with your whole body in lying, sitting and standing positions. The springs can be used to help with difficult movements or provide extra resistance. This makes the tower a great tool for both beginners who need support and advanced users looking for new challenges. If you've already tried the reformer, the tower will feel like an extra layer in your training - with even more opportunities for strength, mobility and control.

Chair -The chair may look like a simple box with pedals, but behind the compact design lies a challenge that requires both strength and precision. Joseph originally developed the Pilates chair as a piece of furniture for small apartments that could be used both as a chair and an exercise machine. Today, it's a staple of the classic Pilates system - known for revealing even the smallest imbalances in the body.

At Pilates Søborg, we work with a Combo Chair, which combines the functions of the original models. This allows for even greater variation in the exercises and makes the chair suitable for both beginners and advanced users who want to be challenged.

The exercises are often done sitting, standing or in balance positions. Many find the chair an intense and fun addition to the reformer.

Cadillac - The Cadillac - also known as the Trapeze Table - is perhaps the most iconic apparatus in Pilates. Joseph Pilates developed it as an extension of his work with bed springs during the First World War. The result is a large, raised frame with springs, trapezes, straps and rods that provide countless opportunities to work the whole body.

You can train lying, sitting, standing - and even hanging - in exercises ranging from gentle rehabilitation to advanced strength series. The Cadillac is particularly well suited to targeting training to individual needs, which is why we use it in our private classes. It allows for control, creativity and precision - and is one of the machines where you can really feel the breadth of Joseph Pilates' original system, whether you're a beginner or advanced.

Barrels - Barrels come in several sizes and shapes - from small spine correctors to the larger arc barrels. Joseph Pilates developed them as tools to work the spine and thorax, particularly focusing on flexibility, breathing and posture. The shape is simple: a curved surface where the body can be placed in stretches, rotations or strengthening exercises.

In our classes, we use barrels to train flexibility in the spine, open the chest and activate the deep and oblique abdominal muscles.

Ladder Barrels The Ladder Barrel is an evolution of the classic barrels and combines a small ladder with a large, curved barrel. Joseph Pilates designed it to challenge both strength and flexibility - especially in exercises that work the hips, back and legs in extended positions.

At Pilates Søborg we use the Ladder Barrel in our private sessions where we can work in more detail with individual needs. Many exercises on the Ladder Barrel require control and endurance - but they also provide some of the most releasing and relieving stretches.
